Amazon Imagery

Hi everyone, I was wanting to ask about photography on Amazon. I read the recent blog post on photography, and it was a good read although, I am slightly confused.

So the guidelines state:

The photo must not contain gratuitous or confusing additional objects.
The photo must not contain additional text, graphics, or inset images.

But in the blog post it shows good examples of imagery demonstrating features points and benefits and highlights that these are good practice - in terms of general e-commerce, yes, this is absolutely the case. But what about on Amazon? Can someone please clarify.

    Hey there,

Would love to elaborate. If you check out that link about amazon guidelines it states the following prior to those criteria...

For images named by product identifier without a variant code or named with the MAIN variant, and display as the main image on the product detail page, Amazon maintains the following site product image standards.

    And then it continues with:

    For additional other view images:

The image must be of, or pertain to, the product being sold.
The image must be in focus, professionally lit and photographed or scanned, with realistic color, and smooth edges.
Other products or objects are allowed to help demonstrate the use or scale of product.
The product and props should fill 85% or more of the image frame.
Cropped or close-up images are allowed.
    Backgrounds and environments are allowed.
Text and demonstrative graphics are allowed.
Pornographic and offensive materials are not allowed.

So pretty much what that means is main image, stick with white background, clean, no fancy stuff.

And then the follow up images is where you give those variations.

I probably could of been a bit more clear, thanks for asking that question. Hopefully this explanation it clarifies things a bit better.

  • Absolutely fantastic! Would it be ok if you could send me the link if possible? Thanks so much for clearing that up.
